Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) status for Iveagh Gardens
There was an initiative taken by the residents association to inform all households about Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) status and the possibility of achieving this status for Iveagh Gardens. It was the belief of the residents association that it would be of benefit to the householders as a way to preserve the uniqueness of Iveagh Gardens from insensitive development.
Brian Furey was the driving force behind the initiative and arranged visits to all houses to poll householders on their opinions. Approximately 92% of residents polled were in favour of ACA status for Iveagh Gardens, 5% were undecided and 3% of residents were against. Deadlines for submission of applications were tight with the closing date being March 12th at 4:30 p.m. Over 170 submissions were made by or on behalf of residents to Dublin City Council. A response on the matter is expected by August 2010.
